Alternanthera reineckii “roseafolia”, Common Names; Red Hygro, Copperleaf. Region found: South America. Height: 25-50cm. Width: 10-15cm. Light: medium–very high. Temperature: 17-28. Hardness: soft-hard. pH: 5-8. Speed of growth: medium. Demands: medium. Alternanthera reineckii is a stem plant with decussate, lanceolate leaves. Upper face of leaves can range in colour from olive green to olive brown/red. Undersides of leaves have a range of colour of red/violet to purple. This plant needs a good iron rich substrate to promote good growth. CO2 addition will optimise maximum growth. Looks best when planted in groups. Pruning will promote better growth and make the plant bushier, leave at least three leaf nodes when pruning. Cuttings can be replanted. Do not allow algae to grow on the leaves otherwise this plant will starve for light.
